Responding to the news that the food industry is asking the Government to delay ongoing and upcoming consultations, Caroline Cerny, Alliance Lead said:

The Government has made a commitment to halve childhood obesity by 2030 and this target will not be met without strong and swift action from Government to curb junk food marketing of all kinds and help people make healthier choices.

We’re calling on the Government to continue to press ahead with these important consultations without further delay or distraction. The measures being consulted on are not due to be implemented until 2020 which gives industry plenty of time to prepare.

The health sector is ready to fully respond, to ensure future generations have every chance to grow up healthy.
