The ‘Turning the Tide’ strategy outlines tangible recommendations for evidence-informed structural policies that can support the UK population to achieve a healthier weight over the next ten years. It was developed with the support of an expert working group led by Professor Dame Anne Johnson.

Turning the Tide

The Obesity Health Alliance is a coalition of over 40 organisations who have joined together to reduce obesity.


The OHA has three active campaign priorities to tangibly address obesity:


To secure and implement new, stronger fiscal measures to incentivise the reformulation of unhealthy food and drink products, based on the success of the Soft Drinks Industry Levy.

Unhealthy Food & Drink Marketing

To secure and implement new restrictions on the marketing of unhealthy food and drink products, including a 9pm watershed on advertising on TV and a ban on paid-for advertising online.


To secure and implement restrictions on promotional tactics used to encourage excessive consumption of unhealthy food and drink products.
